Putnam Rotarians today recognized scholarship winners for the new school term. Attending Marshall with the Rotary awards will be Jordan Miranda Losh and Branden Kyle Roberts. Zachary Jay Coleman will attend West Virginia University with a financial boost from the Putnam club.

All three scholars this year are graduates of Hurricane High School. This is the first time since Rotary has been awarding multiple scholarships that all recipients represent the same high school.

  • Zachary Jay Coleman will be in his second year of study at West Virginia University this fall with a second scholarship award.

Coleman is working toward a degree as a forensic examiner and a career in crime scene investigation. After a successful year with freshman preparatory classes, he has qualified to enter a special program at WVU in his field of study.

  • Jordan Miranda Losh will be completing her undergraduate degree at Marshall University in the next school year. A prospective high school science teacher, she has qualified and won a Rotary scholarship for four consecutive years.

"She understands the importance of engaging students through meaningful, relevant, hands-on activities," Rotarians are told.

She maintains high grades at Marshall while working at part-time jobs and commuting to classes.

She is a member of the Chi Alpha Campus MInistry, and serves as Youth Pastor at the Hope Christian Center in Ona.

  • Branden Kyle Roberts, will attend the Honors College of Marshall University this fall majoring in computer science. His teachers describe him as "a quiet unassuming leader who goes the extra distance."

"He has always been quick to help motivate those who were struggling by giving them quick words of encouragement and, through humor and calm demeanor, kept people focused."

He served this summer as a resident volunteer life guard for the state VFW Summer Youth Camp.

Rotary scholarships are funded through an annual golf tournament and the Chet Marshall Memorial 5-K Run/Walk.
