A special Christmas treat was enjoyed today by Putnam Rotarians and members of the Poca High Interact Club with a return performance by "Uncle Ernie's Boys," a barbershop harmony quartet led by Rotarian Steve Patrick.
"We sing because we love to sing," Patrick told the group. "We're going to sing our first song in the key of G, but sometimes we slip into E-flat or slide up into H
"One man cried as we sang Christmas carols," said Patrick. "Does our singing bring back some precious memories? He said, 'No.' Then why the tears? 'Because I'm a musician,' he said.
"We have some CDs for sale later on," said Patrick. "I have John Denver's Christmas album for sale," tenor Ken Stevens volunteered. "I have a Ricky Skaggs CD," said bass singer Jeep Dille. "And I have a Craig Campbell CD," added baritone Raymond Byrd.
The humor and eclectic selections of music by the quartet drew sustained applause as Rotarians and guests enjoyed a buffet luncheon catered by The Gallery.
By the way, Director Patrick is Rotary's President-Elect due to take office next July 1st, and he promises that during his term there will be singing at every meeting! SATB as well as Barbershop.
