Tickets went of sale today in the second annual raffle for Putnam Rotary Service Projects and Scholarships. "This is not a lottery," said President Chet Marshall. "This is an investment in your community."
He noted that the chances of a winning ticket are much higher than in the state lottery. There will be drawings on February 16th and March 16th, each for $500.00. The final drawing on April 13th will be for a prize of $2,000.00.
Only four hundred tickets are available at a cost of $25 each.
Raffle co-chairs Jack Bailey and Glen Gibbs reported that a large number of tickets were out within a few minutes of Marshall's announcement.
Last year's winners included Cindy Skiles (Teays Physical Therapy Center), Sam Sentelle and Charles McKee.
All drawings will be at noon at Scarlet Oaks Country Club. Holders of the winning tickets do not need to be present to win.
Putnam Rotary supports many community service projects, both locally, in the region and internationally.
Most of the work has come directly from club members through "sweat equity" and personal financial giving. The only major fund-raising project heretofore has been a golf tournament sponsored once a year.
"It's a win-win opportunity," said Marshall. "A ticket lets you give for community service and at the same time gives you a good chance to win."
Tickets are available through members of Putnam Rotary.
