In surprise presentations today, Dianna K. Casto and Wanda E. Robertson were named Paul Harris Fellows, the top recognition by Rotary International for service and philanthropy.
-PHF medals and diplomas are awarded in recognition of gifts of $1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation.
Many Rotarians achieve PHF status as "sustaining members" by participating in an annual giving program wherein contributions accumulate to the coveted honor. Individual gifts are matched by the Putnam club and sometimes additional amounts from other sources.
The awards today were unusual in that donations to the Rotary Foundation had come from club members at large, unknown ahead of time to the two honorees.
A member of Putnam Rotary since October 2000, Robertson is a marketing specialist with Old Colony Realtors. She and husband Doug reside in Hurricane.
Casto specializes in banking retirement services with City Holding (25 Gatewater Road in Cross Lanes). Inducted into Rotary in July 2008, Casto spresently serves as Sergeant-at-Arms for the club.
