Buffalo sophomore tapped for program in international relations

April 14, 2009

Her school counselor had recommended her as an outstanding scholar with leadership skills, and Chelsea Marshall learned last fall that she was nominated for the Leadership Summit on International Diplomacy sponsored by the People to People Ambassadorship Program.

Putnam Rotary today presented the Buffalo High sophomore with a grant of $300 toward the cost of a ten-day trip to the United Nations in New York this summer. She will lodge at Columbia University in New York City and visit George Washington University in Washington, D. C.

By late January, Chelsea had less than $2,000 remaining to raise to defer the cost of the program. She is managing her own web site to inform others about her opportunity to travel "from Buffalo to Washington" -- and beyond.

Marshall wants to prepare for a career with the State Department. "I want to use my life to make a difference in the lives of others, says Marshall "I feel that my love of politics and my desire to travel have helped lead me to this choice.".
