"Passion, Purpose & Prosperity"

Chet Marshall writes on 'success' and 'significance'

October 17, 2006

Chet R. Marshall, Putnam's own author, corporate guru and motivational speaker declares in his new book, "it is my passion to bring prosperity to others."

In this latest publication, "Craft a Life of Passion, Purpose and Prosperity," he makes his point with a quotation from John Maxwell: "Success is when you add value to yourself; significance is when you add value to others."

"As I travel around the world," says Marshall, "it is amazing how many people I talk to who are not happy doing what they are doing (some of them sitting in first class). Yet they have no idea what they really want to do!"

As a featured business consultant and presenter Marshall's travels have taken him to all fifty states, Canada, central America, and abroad to seminars and youth camps in Europe, Africa, Russia and the Ukraine.

On a personal level, several children in difficult circumstances have been assisted to receive an education in the United States. Marshall contributed from his own pocket and secured other funding for books, furniture and supplies for a school in Uganda.

The inspirational success story of Slava from Volzky is recounted in this latest book, from his first encounter with Marshall as a 12-year-old to his brilliant performance in a high school musical production as an exchange student in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. And "Pappa Chet" was in the crowd, third row center, applauding -- perhaps a bit louder than others in the auditorium.

But am I a "self-serving leader or a servant," Marshall asks of himself. "It all comes down to purpose."

Chet tells us his personal prayer: "May my success in adding value to myself be done only to lead to significance by adding value to others."

The thought resonates with words of another great leader and motivator who told his listeners,"It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Other books authored and co-authored by Marshall include "Wholehearted Success," "Thriving in the Midst of Change," "Magnetic Leadership," "Lessons on Leadership -- Visualizing Qualities of a Leader," and "Become the Boss you Want to Be -- 64 Lessons Learned from MY Bosses."
