“Several months ago, our Sergeant at Arms, Bob Keely, was looking for a new way to raise funds for a local project. One of our frequent visitors at our regular Tuesday Noon meetings is Dave Lanham, a member of the Charleston Club. Bob questioned Dave about possible ideas, since Dave had visited so many different clubs, and Dave suggested "Happy Dollars" as a way to raise funds for local projects. Bob took his suggestion and began a "Happy Dollars" jar for each weekly meeting. The funds for this jar were designated for scholarships to the YMCA summer camp. At each meeting, members were encouraged to share what had made them happy during the previous week by paying one dollar for the jar. Some members, who were EXTREMELY happy, donated more than one dollar!
“There were many wonderful and funny moments in the lives of our Rotarians, and they were willing to pay for the privilege of sharing them at our meetings!
“Last week, we issued a check for camp scholarships for $150.50!!! At our next regular meeting, the membership will decide how those "Happy Dollars" will be used for our next project. “This ongoing donation gives us a way to share our personal lives with other Rotarians and contribute to a cause that is important in our own community.
“We would also like to invite all Rotary Clubs to participate in our 9th Annual Putnam County Rotary Charity Golf Tournament on August 2, 2004. It's a wonderful event that helps us fund local and regional projects. If you are interested in entering as an individual, a team or as a sponsor, please contact Randy Lucas, Chairman of the Golf Committee, at 757-7665 or email@example.com or Don Broyles, President of the Putnam County Rotary, at 757-3920 or firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
“Please visit our club during our regular club meetings on Tuesdays at noon at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. If you need directions or any other information about our club, please contact Mary Keely, Secretary, at 757-1060 or at MEKeely@aol.com. You can also visit our website at putnamrotary.com for detailed information on our club and our activities.”
